Here’s to the Fab 40’s! I did it!!

kelly paddlebord 4Ok, so I am NOT the type of person to post bathing suit pictures of myself at all!  I have one purpose for doing this!  I did it!  I accomplished a goal that I have been working on for 3 years! I have posted about this before but I will share again in case you didn’t read that post. (By they way, sorry for the bad picture but I don’t have alot of pictures when I was heavy, I DID NOT like for my picture to be taken)  I gained 65 pounds with my last kid.  Once Brainna (last kid) turned 2 I knew that I was tired of carrying the extra weight.  I joined a woman’s only bootcamp class at 6am in the morning!  I started working out again and boy was it HARD.  That is the only word for it.  I hadn’t really been working out since I started having babies but I was tired of not wanting my picture taken, tired of having a closet full of clothes that didn’t fit, but most of all I was tired of being tired and not having the self confidence I once had.  I started counting calories for the first time in my life and starting workout out.  I did this for 2 years.  Granted I lost 10 pounds but I still didn’t have the definition I wanted and I still had another 10 pounds to lose.  After 2 years I just couldn’t get past the hump?  Know what I am talking about??  I realized I had 3 years til I turned 40 and I was determined to be in the best shape of my life!  I wanted to turn 40 and be proud.  Strange thing happened, I got the flu and I was stuck in bed for 7 days.  The only thing I could do was read and watch TV because I was so miserable.  I love food and recipes so I stumbled upon this website that was talking about this Paleo diet and lifting Heavy (weights).  My girlfriends started telling me about this “diet” and I thought she was nuts!  Who gives up gluten and dairy, processed foods and sugar??  How do you survive??  Well the more research I read and the recipes I found I realized that I had to try this, plus I knew in the back of my mind the goal I had set for myself.  Once I felt good again, I hit the gym with gusto and started this Paleo lifestyle.  It was the best decision of my life!  I have never had more energy, have never felt better and I am stronger than I thought possible.  I have to say that I am not 100% Paleo, I do believe in moderation when it comes to dairy.  I eat organic, grass fed dairy about 3-4 times a week.  But I have not have any gluten in 3 years.  That is something I will never do again.  I have seen the difference in my body and I don’t miss it one bit!  I still eat dark chocolate, I still drink red wine just in case you think I went off the crazy bin.  People ask me all the time what I do, here it is.  I lift heavy weights 3 times a week and I run 1 time a week.  So 4 total workouts (if I am not training for a race).  I eat clean and healthy.  No secret pills, no secret protein powder, nothing but clean foods and my weights (my happy place).  I understand this is not for everyone but it is something I believe in and on Januray 13, 2016 I turned 40 and I am in the best shape of my life.  Bring on the 40’s!!!
